Hong Kong box charges dropping

Average container handling charges in Hong Kong are moving down slowly, but analysts at Salomon Smith Barney say 2003 is when the gloves will really come off. "The days of Hong Kong as a stand-alone port are now history," said analyst Charles de Trenc in the company's latest research report on south China ports..

Hong Kong can still cost about US$200/TEU at Hong Kong International Terminals (HIT) and Modern Terminals (MTL), while Yantian in Shenzhen costs closer to US$125/TEU and Pearl River terminals at Shekou and Chiwan charge less than US$100/TEU....
