NR Sydney upgrade underway

Work on Stage One of the upgrading of National Rail (NR)'s Sydney Freight Terminal at Chullora is now planned for completion by September 2000..

A$14 mill is being invested to build new operations sidings for trains up to 1500m long. These long loops will enable trains arriving from Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth to bypass the busiest tracks accessing the site of the 2000 Olympics, and will ease long train movements during the Games, which take place September 15-30....
