As a postscript to the discussion on steel transportation at the IUMI conference, the Gard P&I Club in Norway recently warned its members about shipments of scrap metal from the Russian Federation.
Export sales of scrap metal through the Black Sea and Azov Sea ports have increased and significant scrap stocks have been accumulated in the ports, Gard said, but former sources of such a profitable commodity are being exhausted. Old combines and tractors have already been removed from abandoned collective farms, as has written-off gear from plants....
