Swidnica rolls on

Prospects for railcar manufacturer WagonySwidnica have improved since US-based Greenbrier, which now owns 97.3 per cent of the former FWS Fabryka Wagony Swidnica (having originally acquired a 60 per cent stake in September 1998), bought the former DaimlerChrysler freight wagon division (ADtranz).

This has provided the Swidnica plant with access to additional certified designs from Greenbrier Germany and allowed it to diversify from solely manufacturing tank cars. The Polish factory is now Greenbrier's principal freight car manufacturing plant in Europe and has also received mechanical certification from the Association of American Railroads (AAR)....
