In a bid to boost its international traffic in the eastern part of India, the Container Corporation of India (Concor) is negotiating with the Eastern Railway and South-Eastern Railway to start scheduled container block train services between its ICDs at Shalimar and Cossipore near Calcutta and the Calcutta Port Trust-controlled Haldia Dock Complex.
Container traffic at Haldia looks likely to increase significantly this year as many shippers are switching to the port from the Calcutta Dock System (CDS) because of a draft surcharge imposed by a number of container operators on container movement to and from CDS....
