Kalmar Industries has booked an order worth at least E30 mill to supply SA Port Operations (the operating arm of the former Portnet) with straddle carriers under a new 3-year umbrella contract.
In what is believed to be the biggest single order for straddle carriers ever placed, initially 60 Finnish-built 40-tonne, 3-high machines of the latest Mark VI design (with rope hoist and ZF Ergopower transmissions) will be supplied to Durban. These will be fitted with engines from Sisu Diesel which, like Kalmar, is part of the Partek group....
