Maersk Container Industri has invested around US$8 mill over the past two years in the upgrading of the production line, equipment and working methods at its reefer container plant in Qingdao, China. The programme, designed to improve both production quality and efficiency, is due to be completed in March this year.
MCI acquired the Qingdao facility from Jindo Corporation at the end of 1998. At that time, it was largely an assembly operation, with pre-pressed parts and sub-assemblies imported from Japan and Korea or supplied by local sub-contractors....
