How low can it go?

With demand remaining at a low ebb, new container prices have tumbled to their lowest ever levels as manufacturers scramble to secure what business is available.

According to sources in China, an ex-works price of US$ 1080 for an average leasing company spec 20ft box has been quoted in the past month, while a number of orders are known to have been placed at around the US$1100 mark. One major builder with plants in the north, central and southern areas of the country is reported to be offering a single delivered price anywhere in China, including Hong Kong, of under US$ 1150 per 20ft....
