Despite the problems for combitransport in France (see last month's WorldCargo News, p40), work on the new trimodal terminal at Dourges, near Lille, has pushed on and, according to project director Charles Masse, the so-called Delta 3 complex will open next year.
The project has been on the cards for almost 10 years, backed by local, regional and European funds, but only got the final go-ahead in spring last year. Up to 330 hectares of land is available for distripark and industrial development and the terminal's location alongside the Haute Deule canal and close to major rail and road routes provides a key opportunity for modal shift....
