Tecon Paranaguá in Brazil is due to start working this month with two Konecranes' Panamax cranes built locally by Bardella. Tecon handled 260,000 TEU last year, mostly with ship's gear. It hopes to order one (plus one) more crane, while the number of RTGs may be raised from six to 10. Throughput is expected to reach 300,000 TEU/year soon, says TCB's commercial director Miguel Duro.
In Spain Grup TCB recently won, with Alvargonzález, Paquet and Navieras Pinillos, a 10-year concession to manage the Muelles de la Osa container terminal in Gijón. As previously reported (WorldCargo News, January 2002, p9) this consortium has to bring in a second crane and buy or rent the existing one, although TCB says it depends on how traffic develops. Meanwhile, Gijón port authority has refused to grant land to Trasmontana (Contenemar) to build its own container terminal....
