Saudi rail project set

Maadin (the Saudi Mining Company) and construction giant Saudi Oger will jointly execute the US$2 bill, privately-managed, 1500 km rail link between Jeddah and Dammam. The Saudi government will bear 50 percent of the project's cost, Saudi Communications Minister Dr Nasir AlSalloum said recently.

Maadin plans to use the link to transport minerals between Al-Zubaira and Jalameed belt regions. According to the plans, Maadin will transport 4.5 mill tons/ year of phosphate from Jalameed to Jubail, as well as transport bauxite from AlZubaira to smelter plants in the eastern province....
