The new Mitsui cranes for ITS, Long Beach (pp19-20) and the earlier Hyundai cranes for Jeddah South are among the first Portainers with Paceco Corp's new design of trapezoidal monobox boom and girder together with a self-propelled trolley. The boom permits a simple hanging trolley whilst providing lateral stability. It is said to be 1012 percent lighter than a comparable double girder boom.

The self-propelled trolley, adds Paceco, saves maintenance on trolley ropes, sheaves and tensioners but is still exceptionally light compared to a full machinery trolley since the main hoist motors reamin in the machinery house. The "hybrid" solution offers the best of both worlds, argues Paceco....
