Throughput at the Port of Dalian reached 1.2 mill last year and, while it is still experiencing good growth, there is increasing competition in tyhe north from Tianjin and Qingdao.
Tianjin Port Container Terminal (TCT), for example, handled 900,000 TEU last year, its major customers being Cosco, Hanjin and MSC and is investing in new equipment and operating systems. The crane and RTG fleet will increase from nine to 13 and from 23 to 27 respectively this year and, as previously reported in WorldCargo News (May 2002, p50), TCT will also be installing the Cosmos application suite. This will replace a custom-made software system which was installed in the 1980s long before container traffic "took off."...
