.. Halifax status quo

Halifax Port Authority (HPA) has announced that NYK/Ceres will continue as operator of the Fairview Cove Container Terminal under the terms of a new 20 year contract effective January 1, 2003. Cerescorp was the original operator of the facility, having started operations when it opened in 1982.

As reported in last month's issue of WorldCargo News (p4), NYK/Ceres was one of four bidders shortlisted for the new contract along with CSX World Terminals/Logistec, P&O Ports North America and Terminal Systems Inc. "This was an intensely competitive situation which was reflected in the quality of the proponents and bids. Our decision was based on our belief that NYK/Ceres will help us optimise our revenue potential and container growth objectives," said Karen Oldfield, president and CEO of the HPA....
