New Zealand's Environment Court is considering case brought by local residents seeking tighter noise controls at Port Chalmers, which is owned and operated by Port Otago.
Currently the port has to "mitigate noise" for residential neighbours exposed to more than 65 Ldn (average of 65dB(A) over a 24 hour period) but around 20 properties are regularly exposed to noise in excess of the limit. Residents are seeking lower limits that vary depending on proximity to the port....
