The world’s first 3 MW container cranes

Siemens is responsible for the electrical installation and commissioning of the world’s biggest container cranes - and their big brothers - in Jebel Ali

The order placed by Dubai Ports Authority (DPA) with ZPMC (WorldCargo News, May 2003, p4) for eight quayside cranes and 12 RTGs includes four cranes which set a new record hoist capacity of 115 tonnes on the ropes (80 tonnes SWL under twin spreaders). They will be powered by the biggest ever container crane drive package totalling 3 MW. As previously discussed these cranes have been ordered with 2 FEU/4 TEU cycling in mind using twin spreaders (see also this issue page 2)....
