Strategically a major shift has taken place in Italian combined transport with the end of the CargoSi exclusivity pact and the ushering in of a more flexible approach to alliances. Thus, for example, SBB Cargo is now collaborating with Nord Milano Esercizio Ferrovie (FNME), while Trenitalia (FS Cargo) is involved with MarCo.
In a new initiative, FS Cargo has reached an agreement with German rail and logistic operator Tx Logistik AG, taking a 15 percent stake and with a call option for up to 49 percent of the shares. The first target is a new Italo-German service dedicated to BMW traffic handled by Ars Altmann, on the Lonato-Verona-München- Feldmoching route via the Brenner Pass. The first train departed on 27 May and annual traffic should reach 120 departures....
