Marseille- Turin link?

The question mark over the Lyon-Turin rail project (see WorldCargo News March 2003, p35) has encouraged supporters of a new direct link between Marseille and Turin to put their case. Claude Cardella, chairman of both CCI Marseille-Provence and the Marseille Port Authority, has handed in a report to the government’s Transaudit office.

It argues that goods moving between Spain, the south of France, Italy and beyond to central Europe would save time going via Marseille, as the rail distance to Oulx in Italy is some 281 kms less than via Lyon. The cost of the link is also claimed to be only 10 percent of the proposed new Lyon-Turin link....
