Plans to build a bridge linking Hong Kong, Macao and Zhuhai in the Pearl River Delta (see WorldCargo News July 2003, p1) are to be fast-tracked as the Chinese government has recognised its urgency, according to Hong Kong’s Chief Secretary Donald Tsang.
Tsang led a delegation to Beijing last month for a meeting with central government officials on the co-ordination of major infrastructure projects. At the meeting, Zhang Guobao, vice-minister of the State Development and Reform Commission (SDRC), expressed support for the project and acknowledged the urgency and necessity of the building of the bridge after listening to feasibility reports....
