The new trimodal logistic centre at Dourges, near Lille, was officially inaugurated last month, more than two years after construction start-up and 13 years since the project originally got the go-ahead. The new terminal, dubbed “Delta 3,” is a major new piece of intermodal transport infrastructure, which could prove a key asset for the ports of Dunkirk and Antwerp.
The facility replaces the saturated, railroad combi-terminal of Lille-Saint Sauveur and is strategically located near three motorways (A1, A26 and A21). It is linked to two main rail lines with electrified double track and is located alongside the broad gauge (1350 tonnes) Dunkerque-Valenciennes canal....
