In response to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) demands for improved container security, P&O Nedlloyd and door gear manufacturer Saejin Container Components Co have come up with a new, low cost method of preventing box doors being opened without leaving evidence of tampering.
As Saejin points out, with older door gear designs it is a simple matter to grind off or drill out the handle hub rivet and detach the handle from the hub without removing the bolt or cable seal fitted through the standard aperture in the handle/ catch. The locking rod can then be opened using a suitable lever on the handle hub, the container’s contents removed or otherwise interfered with, and the handle refitted in the hub, leaving no evidence of tampering....
