General Electric Company (GE) and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) have signed a joint development agreement aimed at developing and testing an integrated system to track shipping containers and protect them against intrusion.
SAIC’s Security and Transportation Technology (STT) business unit and GE’s Equipment Services division have independently developed technologies for monitoring and tracking containers and other assets. The companies plan to integrate these technologies in a system that not only tracks, but also deters, detects and reports intrusion attempts through any of the six sides of the container. One element of the system, the GE VeriWise platform, is already in use as an asset tracking and security device for over-the-road trailers....
