The South Indian state of Kerala’s Ports Department has received 11 expressions of interest from Indian and international port developers for the construction of a deepwater international container transhipment terminal at Vizhinjam on a build, operate and transfer (BOT) basis (see WorldCargo News January 2004, p8). Techno-economic proposals have now been invited from the bidders for which the deadline has been set as June 31.
Four of the bidders are foreign companies and include Dubai Ports International (DPI), the National Port Authority of South Africa, which has formed a consortium with Hyson Harbour Technologies, Konkan Railway Corporation and Boskalis International, and UK-based Beckett Rankine and Company.
