After just four months of operation, Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), operated by APM Terminals in East Port Said, has achieved an average productivity of 41.03 moves/crane hour discharging containers from MAERSK NARVIK, the second of a series of six 2500 TEU, less-than-Panamax containerships being built by HDW in Kiel.
A total of 1443 containers were exchanged using an average of 2.85 cranes. The cranes are equipped with twin spreaders and it is not known how many twinlift cycles were performed but, even so, it is still a notable achievement. Drivers were given months of training prior to SSCT opening but they are still on a “learning curve.”...
