More details of the Kenya Ports Authority’s (KPA) 25 year strategic master plan have been released by the Kenyan government. Dr Gerishon Ikiara, the Permanent Secretary to the Minister of Transport, says that several port services in Mombasa, including cargo handling and IT management, are to be privatised in preparation for the introduction of the port landlord model.
Once this has been achieved, the KPA will focus on strategic planning and environmental and competition regulation. Performance targets for private companies are expected to be set following consultation between the government and the KPA....
