The Indian government has broken the monopoly of state-owned Container Corporation of India (Concor), which hauls containers by rail from inland container depots (ICDs) to ports across the country.
The container haulage sector has been opened up to the private sector and a number of port operators are expected to apply for permits to move containers by rail. Indian Railways will continue to provide traction on the nationwide rail network, but Concor will no longer have the monopoly on rail wagon use....
