Hamburg Süd’s floor show
Hamburg Süd has had 500 20ft dry vans from CIMC fitted with an environmentfriendly hybrid floor that contains no tropical hardwoods. “The new hybrid floors consist entirely of fast-growing birch or larch,” said Jan Striesow, the line’s technical manager, equipment technology.
The crucial factor in this decision was a positive trial with 50 open top containers last year. As previously reported, the hybrid floor surface is covered with a special plastic. This phenolic film seals the porous surface of the wood, making additional varnishing superfluous....
