Crane-spreader interface standard

The not-for-profit CAN in Automation (CiA) organisation in Germany is standardising the communication system connecting crane and spreader. The working group is currently made up of Bromma (whose Andreas Lewis is the chairman), Gottwald, IFM Electronic, Noell Mobile Systems & Cranes, Ram Spreaders, Sontheim Industrie Elektronik and VDL Spreader Systems.

The object, says CiA’s CEO Holger Zeltwanger, who is the project manager, is to achieve interoperability and partly interchangeability of spreaders, without the need for special crane-spreader reconfiguration. The device profile is under development and it is hoped to have it ready by Bauma in Shanghai in November....
