Construction work has started on DP World’s US$230M Saigon Premier Container Terminal (SPCT) near Ho Chi Minh City. The four-berth SPCT will be operated by Saigon Central Container Port Co, in which DPW has 80% stake and Vietnam’s state-owned Tan Thuan Industrial Promotion Co 20% (see WorldCargo News, November 2005, p7).
The terminal is spread on 40 hectares of land along the western shore of the Soa Rap River in the Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park in the suburban Nha Be district. It will have a 950m long quay and related facilities to handle 1.5M TEU/ year. The first two berths are scheduled to become operational in 2008 and start taking over business from existing terminals along the Saigon River....
