Textainer is to take over management of the Gateway container fleet, with effect from next month. In an official statement, Raphael Che and John A Maccarone, respectively president and CEO of Gateway and Textainer, explain that as the container shipping industry has achieved significant consolidation, both companies “believe that consolidation is also needed in the container leasing industry in order for us to benefit from greater efficiencies and to be able to continue to provide our customers with thebest possible service and container supply.”
Gateway’s container fleet totals 315,000 TEU and combining it with that of Textainer will result in Textainer managing a fleet of 1.5M TEU, or 1M containers - the largest lessoroperated fleet in the industry....
