After years of discussion, the governments of Namibia and Botswana have finally agreed to construct a new railway line between their two countries, largely in order to serve mines in the region.
The 1600 km line will run from the Morepule coal mine in eastern Botswana to the Namibian coal mine at Aranos and onward to a proposed port at Shearwater Bay, just south of Lüderitz in Namibia, which would be dedicated to dry bulk, or alternatively to Walvis Bay.
