US-based CakeBoxx LLC used this month’s Intermodal 2006 exhibition in Hamburg to launch its unique “doorless” container design (see WorldCargo News June 2006, p14).
Aimed at improving cargo integrity and raising cross-border security, the Cakeboxx container comprises two fully separable, but structurally integrated, components - the base platform and the superstructure (sides, ends and roof). The superstructure is lifted on and off the platform using standard container handling equipment and is secured to the platform by a proprietary latching and locking mechanism. Once the superstructure is connected to the platform, the container is dimensionally and structurally identical to standard containers and has the same stacking and handling capabilities....
