After carrying out a trial run last month (see WorldCargo News January 2008, p17), German rail operator Deutsche Bahn (DB) is aiming to start weekly Beijing-Hamburg container block train services by 2010, DB president Hartmut Mehdorn said.
The first train carrying 100 containers left Beijing on January 9 and made the 9,800 km journey to Hamburg in just 15 days as China, Mongolia, Russia, Belarus, Poland and Germany simplified Customs checks along the “Eurasian landbridge.”...
