Hamburg port operator HHLA has received its first five twin 40ft hoist ship-to-shore container cranes from ZPMC at its Burchardkai facility. The cranes, which arrived fully-erect on ZHEN HUA 17 on 28 August, are due for commissioning in stages over the next few months. They are reported to have a selfweight of 2250t.
“The new tandem lift cranes are an important part of our programme to boost annual capacity of our container terminals in Hamburg to 12M TEU by 2012,” said HHLA’s executive Board chairman Klaus-Dieter Peters. “But an essential corollary of our investment is the systematic delivery of parallel public sector infrastructure investments. Among these are the deepening of the navigation channel of the Lower Elbe and the construction of the new [lateral] port motorway.”...
