After a decade of double-digit annual throughput growth at China’s two largest container ports, Shanghai and Shenzhen, traffic is expected to rise less than 10% this year as exports lose momentum.
In the first eight months of 2008, volumes at Shanghai rose 9.5% to 18.72M TEU, indicating it will miss its target of 30M TEU for the year as a whole. At this rate of growth, down from 20.45% in 2007, China’s largest container port will handle just over 28M TEU this year....
