Baltic port growth set to continue
The majority of the 44 seaport authorities in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) responded to the first Baltic Port Barometer survey, carried out in June-August 2008 by the Centre of Maritime Studies of the University of Turku, Finland, in co-operation with the Baltic Port Organisation (BPO).
Some of the ports expect growth in their cargo handling volumes in 2009, with16% expecting strong export growth. As is the case with views on overall economic development, the big ports’ (those handling more than 4 mtpa) expectations regarding cargo volume development seem a little more positive than the expectations of the smaller ports. The average growth estimate for cargo volumes of the responding ports was +7.5%....
