Bandar Abbas up 15%

Due to additional available capacity and a strong market, traffic at Bandar Abbas, Iran’s main container terminal, has continued to increase. The port handled 1,439,000 TEU between January and September this year, an increase of 15% on the same period of 2007. The port is expecting to handle around 2M TEU for the year as a whole.

Phase One of the port’s second container terminal (named SRCT2) opened in February this year, increasing overall capacity to 3.3M TEU/year and there are plans to double that in the next 36 months. Phase II of the new facility is scheduled to become operational in early 2012. It will add 2020m of quay length dredged down to 16m alongside, and with 18 post-Panamax gantry cranes....
