The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) will invest US$2.04B to develop the Gabion Container Terminal at Indonesia’s Belawan port in North Sumatra into an international hub port.
Bisnis Indonesia newspaper reported that one of the driving factors behind the decision is the port’s proximity to the Malacca Straits shipping route, which is traversed by ships carrying about 40M TEU a year. The expansion of the terminal has already been approved by Indonesia’s National Development Planning Agency and the Department of Transportation....
