November’s seaborne terrorist attacks on India’s commercial capital, Mumbai, have prompted the Shipping Ministry to upgrade security at 12 major ports operated by the central government.
“The attacks have exposed the vulnerability of Indian coasts and suitable steps have to be taken immediately,” said Capt. P V K Mohan, chairman of the National Shipping Board (NSB). “That the terrorists landed in Mumbai by sea so easily shows the porosity of our coastline and the urgent need to plug the gaps.”...
