The European Freight & Logistics Leaders Forum (F&L) has set up a working group (WG) to examine the “pros and cons” of allowing longer, heavier vehicles, specifically 25.25m long “gigaliners” (also known as “ecoliners” or “eco-combis”) with gvws up to 60t on EU roads.
The European Commission (EC) has just published a report it commissioned from Belgium’s Leuven University, which essentially gives the “thumbs up” to 25.5m/60t gvw combinations. Hence a revision to Directive 96/ 53 could finally be on the cards, although the EC does have some reservations....
