The Western Australian government has appointed an expert group to help guide the future expansion of the port of Fremantle after strongly hinting it favours a mid-1990s proposal from the James Point consortium over that of the Fremantle Port Authority (FPA).
“In recent years, port planning processes have been ad hoc and inadequate, exemplified by issues such as the poor road links,” said Transport Minister Simon O’Brien. “The expert group I have assembled [Fremantle Ports Optimum Planning Group] will identify all the options available and enable the government to remove uncertainty and plan the way ahead.”...
