Indira Container Terminal Pvt Ltd (ICT), a joint venture between India’s Gammon Infrastructure Projects and Dragados-SPL of Spain, started preparatory work this month on the US$236M Mumbai offshore container terminal.
ICT, which took over the operation of Mumbai’s existing container terminal at Ballard Pier in 2007 as part of the deal (see WorldCargo News June 2007, p9), will develop the new facility on a build-operate-transfer basis under a 30-year concession, including the three-year construction period. With a handling capacity of 1M TEU/year across two 350m berths, it will be able to accommodate ships of up to 6,000 TEU that are currently unable to call at Mumbai....
