DBH Logistics IT AG and Travemünder Datenverbund GmbH have launched a new research project, KoKoBahn, aimed at producing a new communication platform for easy and cost-efficient data exchange between all companies involved in rail traffic. The project is backed by Germany’s federal Ministry for Commerce and Technology.
The problem today, say the parties, is that all the information required - shipments, customs declarations, train information, storage position - is logged and processed differently by the ports and railway companies involved and data formats are not harmonised. This wastes personnel resources and increases the risk of errors....
