Another US-based supplier of container scanning devices is L3 Communications, whose Security Systems division acquired all such business from PerkinElmer in 2002 (see WorldCargo News March 2003, p2). Accompanying this takeover was a contract, then in progress, for a single CX-2500M X-ray scanner destined for Rotterdam. The unit was subsequently completed by L3 and delivered to Dutch Customs late in 2002.
The CX-2500M model, which now forms a key strand in the L3 product range, is of mobile type, with the customised truck housing the equipment manufactured by US specialist, Shook Mobile Technology (SMT)....
