LA crush causes carrier crisis

What has become endemic congestion at Los Angeles has proven intolerable for members of the Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA) operating between Australia/ New Zealand and the West Coast of North America, who have been forced to make major operational adjustments to their twin fixed-day-weekly (FDW) services.

CP Ships, Fesco, Hamburg Süd, Maersk Sealand and P&O Nedlloyd have endured the virtual disintegration of schedule integrity over recent months, reportedly causing particular problems for just-in-time supply chains in Australia. Bulletins from the carriers have chronicled a litany of 2-3 day delays and more in LA, with major consequences at other ports as ships have slipped out of terminal windows and port rotations have been truncated at either end of the VSA routes....
