Motors fit for purpose

The life expectancy of a motor can exceed 20 years, so the use of quality materials is of paramount importance. According to one prominent motor manufacturer, ABB, as an all-industry average, about 55 per cent of the price of a motor goes towards materials, while 15 per cent is for labour and 30 per cent is for other costs, including R&D.

OEMs, adds the company, cannot really afford to fit low quality motors, because they would be putting their own reputation on the line. If the product fails, the OEM and not the motor manufacturer will get the blame....
