With the price of apitong plywood continuing to fluctuate wildly, and availability - and quality - no longer guaranteed, the search for substitute materials for container flooring is an ongoing preoccupation in the box business.
This year has seen Indonesian apitong leap in price from US$470/m3 (US$170 per TEU set) in January to a peak of US$640/m3 (US$236 per TEU) by the third quarter. It has since dropped to around US$560/m3 (US$207 per TEU)....
