Last year was a bumper one for crane spreader suppliers - not surprising given the record volumes of container crane activity, and 2005 should also be good, due to the order backlog carried forward from 2004 and the continuing high level of demand. “Congestion” has become the “norm” for container terminals on many port ranges.
This will lead to continued high demand for Twin 20 functionality. In a new development, Elme is the latest supplier to come up with a separating centre Twin 20 design, the prototype of which is now in operation in an undisclosed terminal. Elme naturally has every confidence in the design, but is waiting for sufficient operating hours to be accumulated before marketing it more widely, although several customers have asked for quotes....
