Container traffic at France’s two main container ports, Le Havre and Marseille-Fos, fell slightly last year, due mainly to social unrest and, in the case of Le Havre, an easing of capacity constraints in other North Continent ports for transhipment.
On average France’s major ports logged an increase of 2.6% in overall throughput, but Le Havre’s fell 2% to 75.2 mt, with crude oil down 7.9% at 34.1 mt, refined products up 23.4% to 10.9 mt and dry bulks up 31.2% to 2.9 mt due largely to big increases in thermal coal imports. Marseille-Fos’ throughput rose 2.7% to 96.6 mt, driven by a 4.1% increase in crude oil, refined products and LPG and LNG, with dry bulks increasing 2.7% to 15.3 mt....
