Several US west coast ports are adopting RFID-based automated container position systems.
WhereNet has leveraged its ISO 24730 locatable RFID technology and a sensor interface developed by Paceco Corp to install a full RFID-based container position system at 11 US west coast container terminals. Most container position systems use GPS or transponder technology linked to twistlocks on the spreader to track containers by recording vehicle location when they are picked up and set down.These are difficult to apply on the USWC where terminals combine wheeled storage with RTGs and top picks....
